Kalooki 51 Table

This game is played by 2-4 players with the objective of the game being to be the first player to get rid of all the cards in your hand. The game is made up of rounds in which each player has a turn. Each turn is made up of two different moves: First the player must draw a card. The card can be drawn from either the stock pile or from the discard pile. Once the player has drawn a card he must choose a card to discard. The most likely card to discard is the card which is the least useful to your hand and to your opponents' hand.

The value of each card is measured by the compatibility to the card sequence the player is collecting. In order to get rid of cards the player must create sets or runs from their cards and meld all except one on the melding area. The last card remaining in their hand is used to end the round.

Run - at least 3 sequential cards of the same suit

A set consists of 3 or more cards of the same rank

 OR

Set - at least 3 cards of the same number but different suits.

A run consists of 3 or more consecutive cards of the same suit

 OR

When a player gets rid of all of his cards he is the winner and his opponents receive penalty points according to the cards remaining in their hand. The penalty points correspond to the number on the card, except for the royal cards which are 10 points each, the Ace- is worth 11 points and the joker is worth 25 points. The penalty points determine what place a player is in the game.

During each game of kalooki 51 each player has two options of game play. The first is to meld your cards progressively and lower the risk that if your opponent wins you will be left with a high number of penalty points. The other option  is to meld all of your cards at once. This is called a "Going Kalooki or Kalooki" and your opponents receive extra penalty points over and above the penalty points from their cards. In Kalooki 51 your first meld can be made only if the value the cards you wish to meld are equal or higher than 51.
