Canasta



The Game
Invented in the early 20th century and gaining worldwide popularity during the 1950s, Canasta, just like Rummy is a matching card games for 2-6 players. The object is to meld the cards of the same rank and go out by discarding them or laying them down. The word Canasta means "Basket" in Spanish, lending its meaning to the game's melds.

The Play
Although the play structure is similar to the Rummy one, Canasta contains several distinctive features. The most distinctive one is the 7 card meld - called Canasta - that rewards the player with a special bonus.

RummyRoyal is currently working on adding the game to its online gaming platform, and intends to upload the long awaited online version sometime during late 2009. The online multiplayer Canasta software will be available for download off the internet free of charge and will enable both fun and money play. A Canasta tutorial, alongside complete "How to Play", rules, tips and strategies guides will be available for all players, helping them learn the game, win and join the prestigious elite of RummyRoyal champions.
